It’s day one of Sandown‘s Coral-Eclipse meeting on Friday 3rd July. Some top quality races take place across the seven races, with three listed contests lighting up the action on the level.
Steve Chambers focuses Friday’s Lucky 15 on the Sandown action and picks out his best four bets here.
Sandown Racing Tips (Friday 3 July 2026)
It’s a 1.50pm start at Sandown on Friday, with the action going right through until 5.15pm. Here are the best bets for the day.
1.50 Sandown – Comical Point (1pt win – 7/4)
George Boughey’s Westport made no mark at Royal Ascot last time out when down the field in the Palace Of Holyroodhouse Handicap. Making a quick turn around, he’s prominent in the betting for the 1.50pm contest, but could be vulnerable to the progressive Comical Point. Declared a non runner at Royal Ascot, Andrew Balding’s charge comes into this a fresh horse, and was last seen finishing second. This stiff five furlongs can prove ideal for him and he can get his second career win in the opener.
2.25 Sandown – Ronson (1pt win – 100/30)
Several lining up in the Dragon Stakes at Sandown on Friday were last seen competing at Royal Ascot, with all of them unable to land a blow. One that bypassed the Royal meeting was Ronson for Nigel Tinkler. All his three starts have come at Beverley, where he was victorious on his second start. A 50/1 outisder for the Beverley 2-Y-O Trophy, he ran a mighty race to finish second, and he could possibly improve again. This is tougher, with some exciting juveniles lining up, but Tinkler should bring his charge on again and the tallented juvenile can claim the win.
3.35 Sandown – Royal Rhyme (1pt win – 13/2)
Sallaal looked every bit a Group horse in a handicap last time out when romping to a six-length victory over Respond at Epsom. Roger Varian’s charge will now line up in listed company in the Gala Stakes at 3.35pm and is a red-hot favourite for the contest. One that could potentially give him something to think about is Royal Rhyme, who was last seen in the Wolferton Stakes at Royal Ascot. Karl Burke’s charge finished down the field that day, but had no sort of run and his race was over. He’s shown smart form on his day, and this small field should aid his chances, and is decent value to down the Varian hotpot.
4.42 Sandown – So Alex (1pt win – 11/4)
Dr Richard Newland & Jamie Insole’s So Alex has been in tremendous form the last year and the flourishing four-year-old can taste more success in the 4.42pm race. A dual winner at Wolverhampton last winter, he’s been seen knocking on the door in competitive races at Ripon and Carlisle. Second in both those events, he will be looking to go one better here. Upped 1lb by the handicapper, he’s one that could easily continue his improvement and record another victory.
