Andrew Mount looks to head into the weekend on a positive note and has a quintet of selections for Friday’s cracking racing at Sandown and York. Check out Andrew’s best bets for the Friday 12 June here…
Sandown Racing Tips (Friday 12 June 2026)
There are eight races at Sandown, with a 1.08pm start. Andrew looks to start off the afternoon on a bright note with a selection in the 1.38pm race.
1.38 Sandown – Good Earth (0.5pt e/w – 8/1 generally, three places, Sky Bet’s 15-2 first four is best if you have access to it)
There’s come cracking action at the likes of York, Sandown and Chester today and it feels more like a Saturday than a Friday…
Good Earth looks set to encounter the requires strong gallop in this 5f handicap and makes each-way appeal. The veteran surprised me when scoring over an easy 6f at Haydock last month as he’s always seemed happiest over a stiff 5f and I’m happy to forgive his subsequent 6f Catterick defeat as the small field/steady early pace was no help. He’s won 12 of his 35 starts when racing in Class 3 or lower company after a recent outing (20 days or sooner) for a profit of £49.20 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£70.73 at Betfair SP after 2% commission). Those runs include 5f Sandown figures of 31152 (2-5).
York Racing Tips (Friday 12 June 2026)
Quality, competitive action comes from York as well this afternoon, where Andrew has four tips on the Knavesmire.
1.50 York – Quest For Fun (1pt e/w – 13-2 Sky Bet, six places, 13-2 BetVictor, Paddy Power, five places, 6-1 general with the other firms paying first five)
Those of you who have already listened to GG’s Weekend Watch will have heard me mention Quest For Fun, who went close in the 7f Class 3 MacMillan Handicap (Saturday) at this two-day meeting in 2024. Tim Easterby’s veteran ran off 86 that day and runs off just 77 in today’s Class 4 apprentice contest. The son of Lope De Vega looked unlucky when third over course and distance at the Dante meeting and, since fitted with a tongue-tie, he has rarely run a bad race over today’s course and distance in fields of 16 or more runners, finishing as follows (reverse order)…
3rd of 22 (repeatedly hampered)
5th of 22 (reared up in stalls)
6th of 21 (hampered)
WON 11-2
8th of 21 (fourth best of the closers when it was hard to come from off the pace)
4th of 22 (hampered)
4th of 18
2nd of 19 (beaten by half a length)
2nd of 17 (beaten by a neck)
WON 9-1
His patient running style makes him reliant on luck in-running which, as you can see from above, he hasn’t always had, but he makes each-way appeal once again.
2.25 York – Lady Dublin (1pt win – 12/1 bet365, 11/1 generally) & Baila Morena (1pt win – 12/1 bet365, BetVictor, 11/1 generally)
Ollie Pears has a 14 from 81 record with two-year-olds in selling company (+£52.48 to a £1 level stake at SP, +£99.45 at Betfair SP after commission, expected wins = 7.26, A/E = 1.93) and, as per usual, he’s thrown a few darts at York’s Rous Selling Stakes today. The North Yorkshire handler won this race 12 months with 25-1 shot Carnation Queen and was also on target in 2024 (Inconspicuous, 14-1) and in 2023 (Celestial Flight, 7-1). Four of his runners in juvenile sellers started as favourite for their prep run with all four winning (7-1, 7-1, 11-4 and 8-11) and perhaps Lady Dublin can make it five from five today. She was too green to do herself justice when a 12-1 fourth at Beverley in mid-April, missing the break and meeting trouble and still looked in need of the experience (hung right) when fourth as the 2-1 favourite at the same venue last time.
Baila Morena, a stablemate of Lady Dublin, built on her 80-1 debut seventh of 11 at Beverley with an eye-cacthing 40-1 fourth of 15 at Redcar last month. The daughter of Pinatubo was poorly drawn in stall 1 on a day all the action was centre/near side and she did well to finish so close. If we discard their racecourse debuts, Pinatubo fillies have a 43 from 223 record (19.3%) for a profit of £88.24 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£185.85 at Betfair SP). This system also found the 400-1 shot who went down narrowly in second place at Salisbury the other day.
4.10 York – Castle Stuart (0.5pt e/w – 14/1 generally with the firms paying first five, e.g. Sky Bet, William Hill)
It helped to be prominent towards the inside rail in the course and distance handicap won by Warrant Holder on May 15th and those who made ground from off the pace, especially the ones who challenged wide down the middle of the track, have gone into my tracker. Only two have run since – 13th placed Per Contra (“slowly away, in rear”_ who ran third at 20-1 in Opportunity’s race at Carlisle next time, doing best of the closers, and sixth-placed Castle Stuart (“took keen hold, midfield on outer”) who also lined up against Opportunity at Carlisle, finishing tenth after taking a keen hold under a patient ride. The Fahey-trained four-year-old colt might be in need of a gelding operation, though the first-time hood could help to curb his exuberant running style. His yard has a good record when using this headgear for the first time, scoring with 15 of the 91 qualifiers (16.5% strike-rate) for a profit of £42.45 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£101.39 at Betfair SP after 2% commission). The expected number of wins base don their odds was only 9.12 giving an actual over expected figure (A/E) of 1.64 (anything over 1.0 is good). Dubawi colts often improve for a first-time hood too – six wins from 20 bets for a tiny profit at SP (+£0.42) – and he’s worth chancing to small each-way stakes.
