17:07 – Sligo Plumb Centre Mares Maiden Hurdle

Race Details: 2m 1f | | Going: GOOD (Watered) | | jumps

This does not look the deepest mares’ maiden hurdle run at Sligo and, on bare form, it revolves around a short-priced favourite with the rest scrapping for places. Cotswold Blue brings the standout recent profile after figures of 221 and comes from the Willie Mullins yard, which is never easy to ignore in this sort of contest. Belladaball is the obvious alternative on ratings and had every chance of being involved again when falling last time, while Searcog has the best official mark in the field and arrives after a solid second. Behind those, Carleys Lilly is probably the one who could outrun her price. The market has this about right, but there is still a bit of each-way value to be found against the favourite.

Top Selections

1. Cotswold Blue – 1/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Mr P W Mullins | Trainer: W P Mullins | Form: 221 | Rating: | Topspeed:

Cotswold Blue is hard to oppose. She has done little wrong in three starts over hurdles, improving from a pair of seconds to get off the mark last time, and that 221 sequence is comfortably the cleanest progressive profile in the line-up. The Mullins team rarely misses these openings when sending one to a track like Sligo, and Mr P W Mullins is an eye-catching booking in a race lacking depth. At 1/2 she is no hidden gem from a value perspective, but she sets the standard on recent evidence and looks the most likely winner if reproducing that latest effort. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Searcog – 6/1 with Bet365

Jockey: E Walsh | Trainer: Patrick Magee | Form: 465-42 | Rating: 118 | Topspeed: 97

If you want something at a workable each-way price, Searcog makes plenty of appeal. She has the highest rating in the field on 118, her topspeed figure of 97 stacks up well, and that latest second suggested she is ready to pick up a race of this nature before long. As a 4yo getting weight from the older mares, she has a handy edge there too, and this looks a race where consistency should count for plenty behind the favourite. Available at 6/1, she looks the value play to chase home Cotswold Blue and could make life awkward if the jolly underperforms. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Cotswold Blue is the straightforward win play and makes more appeal as a banker than a price to get excited about. For an each-way punt, Searcog looks the sensible alternative given her rating, weight allowance and solid recent second. Belladaball is the obvious danger if brushing aside that latest fall, while Carleys Lilly has place claims in a race that falls away quickly.

17:42 – Aidan Moffitt Memorial Handicap Hurdle

Race Details: 2m 1f | | Going: GOOD (Watered) | | jumps

This is a competitive little handicap without being a deep one, and the market has understandably latched on to Fremantle Doctor after his recent second. He brings solid enough placed form into it, but there are a couple lurking on better terms who make this more interesting than a straightforward favourite-backers’ race. Tradonthebay has the standout rating in the field and, on his best efforts this season, looks very well treated for a race of this nature, while Granlahan arrives with consistent recent form and the sort of low weight that can be gold around Sligo. Bowgate Street is another with a squeak if bouncing back, but overall this feels like a race where current sharpness and handicap leniency will decide it rather than class alone.

Top Selections

1. Tradonthebay – 9/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Danny Gilligan | Trainer: Paul John Gilligan | Form: -25539 | Rating: 116 | Topspeed: 105

Tradonthebay looks the percentage call. He is the highest-rated horse in the race, has by far the best Topspeed figure on offer, and his recent form reads better than the bare finishing positions suggest. That third run back, in particular, showed he still retains plenty of ability, and a mark of 116 does not look beyond him in this company. Danny Gilligan gets on well with these handy, straightforward handicap types and this test on good ground should suit. At 9/2 he is not exactly hiding, but he still makes more appeal than the shorter-priced favourite in a race where proven pace and sound jumping ought to count. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Granlahan – 9/2 with Betfair

Jockey: Daniel King | Trainer: Adrian McGuinness | Form: 33U362 | Rating: 106 | Topspeed: 90

Granlahan is the each-way play because he comes here in much better nick than plenty of these and has the profile of one who should keep finding races off this sort of mark. The recent second was another solid effort, and his sequence of placed runs suggests he is holding his form well rather than throwing in the odd good day. Carrying just 147, he is one of the more attractively weighted runners in the field, and that matters plenty around here when they begin to quicken from the home turn. He may lack the outright ceiling of Tradonthebay, but at 9/2 he looks a rock-solid each-way punt with four places on offer. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Back Tradonthebay to win, as he has the strongest handicap credentials and the best speed figure in the lineup. For a safer angle, Granlahan makes plenty of each-way appeal with his consistency and low weight. Fremantle Doctor is the obvious danger after that latest second, while Bowgate Street could outrun his price if returning to his better spring form.

18:17 – Solar Generation Maiden Hurdle

Race Details: 2m 4f | | Going: GOOD (Watered) | | jumps

This looks a fairly ordinary maiden on paper and the market has understandably latched on to the two with the clearest bits of hurdle form, Kisuton Enki and Seven Towers. Kisuton Enki brings the standout rating of 129 and has been running well enough in better company to make him the obvious one, while Seven Towers has at least been holding his level and sets a decent standard for the rest. After that, it gets murkier. Lengaruka has a little more substance than most of these at a bigger price, whereas Godsend and Mindyourheadmike need to step forward sharply. In a race lacking depth, proven ability over timber should count for plenty and that may well decide it.

Top Selections

1. Kisuton Enki – 7/4 with Paddy Power

Jockey: Jack Kennedy | Trainer: Gordon Elliott | Form: 0/2-26 | Rating: 129 | Topspeed:

He is hard to oppose in this line-up. That 129 rating leaves him clear on the figures, and while he has become a mildly frustrating maiden, his recent profile is still comfortably the best on offer here. The 0/2-26 form string says he has been getting competitive without finishing the job, but this is not a deep contest and Gordon Elliott’s runner is taking a marked drop in class compared to what he has been facing. Jack Kennedy is an eye-catching booking and if this turns into a straightforward test of ability from two out, Kisuton Enki should simply know more than most of these. At 7/4, he is short enough but still the percentage call.

Bet: WIN

2. Lengaruka – 9/1 with Paddy Power

Jockey: John Shinnick | Trainer: Mrs Lorna Fowler | Form: 05 | Rating: 99 | Topspeed: 63

If you want to play against the obvious pair for a bit of value, Lengaruka makes most appeal. He is no world-beater, but a mark of 99 and that topspeed figure of 63 suggest there is more substance to his profile than the bare 05 form string first implies. In this company, that matters. Mrs Lorna Fowler’s runner should be better for the experience of his first two starts over hurdles and this step up to 2m4f could bring out a little more. He does not need to improve a stone to get involved, just a few pounds, and 9/1 looks fair for an each-way punt in an eight-runner race lacking much strength in depth.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Kisuton Enki is the solid win play because he owns the strongest hurdle form and the clear best rating. For an each-way alternative, Lengaruka looks the value in a race where plenty have shown very little. Seven Towers is the obvious danger if running to his mark, but he is short enough in the betting for one who has already had a few chances.

18:48 – McDermott Farm Machinery Handicap Hurdle

Race Details: 2m 4f | | Going: GOOD (Watered) | | jumps

This is a proper summer handicap hurdle puzzle with plenty in against the non-runner Clever Court, and there are several arriving with bits of recent form that make them easy enough to fancy. Phoenix Arizona has been knocking hard on the door, Sekakarma comes here after a solid second, while Laska Du Breuil arrives on the back of a win and still looks on a fair mark. Georginas Jet is another with claims if this turns tactical, and Wild Mandate has a recent success in the book too, though he comes with risk attached after his latest pull-up. In a race like this, over 2m4f on decent ground, a clean round and a bit of patience from the saddle may count for as much as raw ability. Tricky, but not impossible.

Top Selections

1. Phoenix Arizona – 7/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Thomas O’Connor | Trainer: John J Cullen | Form: -00432 | Rating: 101 | Topspeed: 95

He makes most appeal because his profile is heading the right way and his recent efforts suggest this race is there to be won. The sequence of 3rd and 2nd on his last two starts reads well in the context of this sort of handicap, and that Topspeed figure of 95 is right up there in the field. He doesn’t look obviously thrown in, but equally he doesn’t need much improvement to go one better. Thomas O’Connor knows what is required around a track like this, and if Phoenix Arizona gets a decent pace to aim at, 7/2 looks perfectly fair rather than cramped. He holds strong claims. Bet type tag: Win.

Bet: WIN

2. El Arco – 9/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Josh Williamson | Trainer: Gordon Elliott | Form: 08795- | Rating: 97 | Topspeed: 75

This one is much more of an each-way play, but there is enough here to think he could outrun his price. He has been off the track since the spring, so fitness has to be taken on trust, yet he’s dropped to a workable mark of 97 and comes from a yard that can revive one in races of this nature. Gordon Elliott’s runners in these ordinary handicaps always command respect, and El Arco gets in with a low weight of 144, which could matter late on if this becomes a proper test from some way out. At 9/1 in a race paying five places, he looks the value each-way against shorter-priced, more exposed rivals. Bet type tag: Each-way.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Phoenix Arizona is the win play because his recent form is the most persuasive and he looks primed to strike. El Arco is the each-way punt at a bigger price, with his mark and stable giving him obvious place claims. The main dangers are Sekakarma, who is very solid, and Laska Du Breuil, who arrives with momentum after that latest win.

19:18 – Francie ‘Banger’ Burns Handicap Hurdle

Race Details: 2m 4f | | Going: GOOD (Watered) | | jumps

This is a proper competitive Sligo handicap rather than a race to get carried away with, and there are several arriving with something to recommend them. Harpy Eagle and In The Minus both come here off wins and look like the obvious progressive angles, while In For The Night also bounced back to score last time and now tries to back that up under a big weight. Drombane is the lurking Mullins runner, though his latest effort asks a question, and Midnight Eagle has been knocking on the door from a handy mark. Over this 2m4f on watered good ground, I’d expect a mix of tactical speed and the ability to see it out strongly to matter. It looks a tricky puzzle rather than a deep race, but there should be betting value if siding with the right improver.

Top Selections

1. Harpy Eagle – 5/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Paddy Cody | Trainer: R P Cody | Form: 40-661 | Rating: 121 | Topspeed: 112

Harpy Eagle makes plenty of appeal after getting his head back in front last time, and the overall profile suggests there could still be a bit more to come from this 5yo at staying-hurdle trips. A mark of 121 is no gift, but it’s workable, and that Topspeed figure of 112 is one of the standout numbers in the field. He’s not carrying the sort of burden In For The Night has to lump, and this looks the right grade for another bold show. At 5/1, he appeals as the solid win play in a race where a few of the others have slightly shakier profiles. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Midnight Eagle – 9/1 with Paddy Power

Jockey: Darragh O’keeffe | Trainer: Andrew McNamara | Form: 0-3023 | Rating: 118 | Topspeed: 111

Midnight Eagle looks the each-way value because he’s doing plenty right without getting much reward for it. His recent sequence says consistency, and a rating of 118 leaves him well enough treated if this race sets up for a closer or a horse travelling just behind the pace. The Topspeed of 111 tells you he has the engine for a race like this, and the drop in weight compared to some of the market principals is another plus. He doesn’t arrive with the sexy last-time-out win angle, which is probably why he’s available at 9/1, but that makes him a far more interesting each-way punt. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Harpy Eagle is the win bet, as he combines recent winning form with one of the best speed figures in the line-up and still looks progressive. Midnight Eagle is the each-way option at a more appealing price, especially in an 11-runner race with three places on offer. In For The Night and In The Minus are the obvious dangers if building savers or exactas around the main pair.

19:48 – Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Hurdle

Race Details: 3m 1f | | Going: GOOD (Watered) | | jumps

This is a proper staying handicap with a few arriving here on the back of confidence-boosting runs and a couple of old hands lurking lower down the weights. Strong Contender heads the market after getting off the mark last time and is the obvious starting point from just 10st 5lb, while Keep Em Quite and Luck Between Us also come here after solid recent efforts and look the main threats. Ilbdare is another last-time-out winner who has to be taken seriously if building on that. It is not an especially deep race, but it is a tricky enough puzzle because several of these are closely matched on ratings and plenty have patchy profiles. In a race likely decided by who sees out the trip strongest, a light weight and upward trajectory could count for plenty.

Top Selections

1. Strong Contender – 4/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Conor Smithers | Trainer: Norman Lee | Form: 0-0781 | Rating: 118 | Topspeed: 93

He is hardly bombproof on the bare form figures, but that latest win changed the conversation and suggested he is finally learning how to put it all together. A 5yo with just 10st 5lb on his back in a staying handicap is always worth a second look, and his mark of 118 does not look beyond him if that breakthrough success has brought him forward again. Conor Smithers keeps the ride and this unexposed profile is more appealing than some of the older, fully exposed types around him. At 4/1 with Bet365, he makes most appeal as the one open to further improvement. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Keep Em Quite – 11/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Eoghan Finegan | Trainer: Cian Collins | Form: 505-52 | Rating: 114 | Topspeed: 79

There was plenty to like about his runner-up effort last time, a run that hinted this sort of trip can bring out a bit more in him. He is only 5, so unlike several of these he still has some scope to progress as a staying hurdler, and a mark of 114 gives him every chance of getting involved again. Cian Collins does well with these types and Keep Em Quite looks the sort who should travel sweetly before being produced late. With four places on offer, 11/2 with Bet365 appeals as a fair each-way punt in a race where consistency is thin on the ground. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Strong Contender is the win play on the back of that breakthrough success and a very workable racing weight. For an each-way alternative, Keep Em Quite looks solid enough to hit the frame and possibly better if he builds on his latest second. Luck Between Us and Ilbdare are the obvious dangers after recent wins, while Tango Theatre is not the worst outsider for place money.

20:18 – WTW Willis Insurance Brokers Flat Race

Race Details: 2m 2f | | Going: GOOD (Watered) | | jumps

This looks a fairly informative bumper rather than a deep one, with the market understandably centred on two runners. Willie Mullins introduces Run For Fun and that stable alone demands respect in this sphere, but Dancing Symbol brings the one piece of standout public form after finishing second and earning the best rating in the field. Orderly Conduct is the other one with enough on paper to make this interesting after a respectable debut for Gavin Cromwell, while the rest need to take a sizeable step forward from what they have shown. Over this 2m2f on decent ground, class and professionalism should count for plenty. It is not an impossible puzzle, but it does look like a race where the obvious pair may simply have too much.

Top Selections

1. Dancing Symbol – 2/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Mr A P Ryan | Trainer: Andrew Slattery | Form: 2 | Rating: 114 | Topspeed: 109

Dancing Symbol sets the standard on what we have actually seen on the track and there is no need to get too clever about that. A runner-up on debut, she already has a solid level of bumper form in the book and her rating of 114 is comfortably the best in this field. The 7lb sex allowance is another small but useful edge against the geldings, and a topspeed figure of 109 suggests there was substance to that effort rather than mere promise. Run For Fun could be anything, but at around 2/1 Dancing Symbol appeals as the percentage call because she has already shown she can do it under race conditions. Bet: WIN

2. Orderly Conduct – 13/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Mr B M Coonan | Trainer: Gavin Cromwell | Form: 6 | Rating: 103 | Topspeed: 75

Orderly Conduct looks the sensible each-way alternative if you want to play against the front two dominating completely. He finished sixth on debut, which does not leap off the page, but his mark of 103 suggests there was more promise in the run than the bare placing indicates, and Cromwell’s bumper runners tend to know their job sooner rather than later. In a race where several rivals have already shown very little, he is the one most likely to improve into the places with normal second-start progress. At 13/2 he makes more appeal as an each-way punt than some of the bigger prices, because he at least has a realistic route into the first three. Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Dancing Symbol is the win bet because she brings the clearest, strongest piece of form and does not need much imagination. Orderly Conduct is the each-way option in an eight-runner field with three places on offer, as he looks the most plausible improver behind the principals. The obvious danger is Run For Fun, simply because a Mullins newcomer at odds-on is never there by accident.
