Southwell & Ayr Racing Tips - Andrew Mount's Best Bets for Sunday 5 July

Andrew Mount fired in a brace of winners on Saturday and he looks to end a profitable week with two more. He heads to Southwell and Ayr for his best bets on Sunday 5 July, with both looking to stand great chances of landing the money.

Southwell Las Racing Tips (Sunday 5 July 2026)

A whopping eight races take place at Southwell, with a 2.02pm start. Andrew’s best bet is an eye-catching Ruth Carr-trained runner in the 4.15pm.

4.15 Southwell – Alligator Alley (1pt win – 10/1 generally)

Kaiya Fraser had a bit of a shocker on Alligator Alley at Redcar on June 20th, electing to race stands’ side/centre with just one other rival when it was clear as day that the far side of the track was massively quicker. Ruth Carr’s veteran was poorly drawn in stall 8 of 9 that day but it was still a daft move and his 14-length last of nine can be safely ignored. The return to the all-weather will suit – he’s eight from 32 on synthetics as opposed to four from 43 on grass – and he’s worth chancing to bounce back on his favourite surface as the market has over-reacted to his latest effort.

Ayr Racing Tips (Sunday 5 July 2026)

There are seven races at Ayr, but you have to until 5.00pm for his best bet on the Scottish card.

5.00 Ayr – Theoryofeverything (1pt win – 100/30 generally)

Dwindling Funds has been well support in the overnight market for the Class 3 Summer Mile Handicap at Ayr but Jim Goldie’s front-runner but he’s still to win above Class 5 level and could help to tee the race up for a rival. I’d rather side with last year’s winner Theoryofeverything who can usually be relied upon to run his race in Class 3 or lower company when there’s some cut in the ground (it’s officially good with light rain forecast today), winning three of his ten starts under such conditions. The six-year-old has been dropped to a mark of 89 for his latest Redcar fifth, 3lb lower than when taking this race 12 month ago.
