Southwell Racing Tips (Tuesday 28 April 2026)
Seven races on the all-weather at Southwell get under way at 2.20pm. You don’t have to wait long for Andrew’s best bet on the card, as he has a selection in the opening contest.
2.20 Southwell – River Wharfe (0.5pt e/w – 11/1 bet365, four places, 10/1 generally with the other firms paying four places)
Backing jockey Myla Coppins blindly in handicaps would have found ten winners from 44 bets for a profit of £24.50 to a £1 level stake at SP and she’s worth supporting to get a tune out of River Wharfe at Southwell this afternoon. The eight-year-old won a 7f Class 6 handicap under Coppins on his latest course outing and I’m inclined to forgive his subsequent defeats at Wolverhampton. He had the worst of the draw (stall 11 off 11, non-runner adjusted) when only eighth over the 8.6f trip in the first of them and, last time, he tried to challenge against the ‘dead’ inside rail when a 16-1 sixth over the same trip (beaten by just over four lengths). The return to this course and distance is an obvious plus and this hold-up performer will hopefully get a reasonable gallop to chase courtesy of veteran Saisons D’Or.
Yarmouth Racing Tips (Tuesday 28 April 2026)
There are another seven races at Yarmouth, with Andrew’s sole selection from the East Anglian track lining up in the 4.28pm contest.
4.28 Yarmouth – Lady Mariko (1pt win – 9/4 generally)
Lady Mariko took her record in fillies’ handicaps to 211653351 (3-9) when landing a Class 4 contest at Kempton on her reappearance at Kempton on April 6th and the step back up to her optimum 7f trip could bring about even more improvement at Yarmouth this afternoon. Dylan Cunha’s four-year-old had caught the eye when a best-of-the-closers neck second at Newmarket last backend on her most recent turf outing and was impressive over course and distance second time out last term. She raced more prominently than usual when scoring at Kempton and a similar ride will help today, as there’s a strong tailwind (half behind) forecast and it could be difficult to come from off the pace. The likeliest front-runner, and the bet for the forecast, is Seb Spencer’s Shallow. She was well beaten after being taken on for the lead at Newcastle last time, but today’s smaller field will suit. Her record in fields of nine or fewer runners stands at 1156114162 (5-10) for a profit of £11.25 to a £1 level stake at SP.
Lingfield Racing Tips (Tuesday 28 April 2026)
Later on in the day the racing comes from Lingfield Park, with a 4.43pm start. Yet again Andrew goes early in the card with his best bet of the day in the first race.
4.43 Lingfield – Ancient State (1pt win – 5/4 bet365, 6/5 Coral, Ladbrokes, 11/10 generally)
Ancient State took his record at the minimum trip to 111 (3-3) when justifying 16-5 favouritism in a Class 6 handicap at Southwell on March 28th and that form has received minor boosts from subsequent in-the-frame efforts from the runner-up, third, fourth, fifth and sixth. One of his three wins came over today’s course and distance and in-form Adam Kirby’s four-year-old is likely to prove hard to beat. Lequinto, runner-up here yesterday, has a good record when returned to the track quickly and looks the obvious one for the straight forecast.
