Chepstow will play host to the 2025 Welsh Grand National on Saturday 27 December, as some of the leading stayers line up for the 3m 6f 132y marathon. One of the standout contests of the Christmas racing, this has been a race won by some iconic names and the next batch of stamina-laden performers will be bidding for glory at 2.50pm on Saturday.

In our in-depth Welsh Grand National preview we take a look at the Welsh Grand National Runners, pick out the key Welsh Grand National trends, whilst also picking out our big-race selection for what should be a superb renewal.

2025 Welsh Grand National Runners

A winner of the Welsh Grand National Trial earlier in the month, Jubilee Express will be attempting to do the staying double for Sam Thomas. A hugely progressive stayer, the eight-year-old downed Collectors Item in that trial event and the pair are set to lock horns in Wales once again. A winner of the London National, Peter Marsh Chase and Midlands Grand National, Mr Vango was just denied in the Becher Chase at Aintree and he’s a dour stayer that will relish this test. An Irish Grand National winner, Haiti Couleurs is a top class stayer, but will have a huge weight to carry for Rebecca Curtis and will have his work cut out. A former Kim Muir runner-up and Scottish National third, Git Maker is one that has shown a real love for these sort of races, whilst the likes of O’Connell, Rock My Way and Intense Raffles add more depth to the list of runners.

Welsh Grand National Trends

Welsh Grand National Tips

With only a 4lbs penalty to carry for his Welsh Grand National Trial victory, Jubilee Express has to be a leading contender for the Welsh Grand National and the Sam Thomas-trained raider can bound to glory in Saturday’s contest. Collectors Item ran a big race and is a little better at the weights for their meeting at the weekend and can chase him home again, whilst Mr Vango has shown he’s all about stamina and he can stay on best of the rest up the long home straight at Chepstow racecourse.
