16:47 – Shamrock Enterprises Maiden Hurdle

Race Details: 2m 4f | | Going: GOOD (Selective watering) | | jumps

This is a proper maiden hurdle rather than a weak summer knockabout, with several yards well capable of supplying the winner and a few solid bits of placed form on offer. Newbrook Diamond sets the standard on the figures and has the look of the obvious one to beat after repeatedly knocking on the door, while Seven Towers has been admirably consistent and should be right there again. Captain Hanley also brings dependable recent form, and the market will naturally keep a close eye on Willie Mullins pair Fou De Toi and the newcomer Sea Feliz. Over this trip on decent ground, proven stamina and slick jumping are likely to count for plenty. It is not impossible to solve, but there are enough unexposed types in here to stop it being a penalty kick.

Top Selections

1. Newbrook Diamond – 9/4 with Bet365

Jockey: Danny Gilligan | Trainer: Gordon Elliott | Form: 25273- | Rating: 127 | Topspeed: 121

He is the standout on established hurdle form and, frankly, this looks a very fair opening for him if returning in the same nick. That mark of 127 towers over this field, and his sequence of placed efforts suggests he has been keeping better company than most of these. There is always a slight niggle with one who has had several chances, but this 2m4f on good ground should be right in his lane and Danny Gilligan is more than capable of delivering him late. At 9/4 with Bet365, he is not a giveaway, but he is still the one with the strongest claims on what we know. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Captain Hanley – 6/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Phillip Enright | Trainer: Eamonn O’Connell | Form: 2U2 | Rating: 111 | Topspeed: 96

Captain Hanley makes plenty of each-way appeal in a race where some of the shorter-priced rivals still have a bit to prove under pressure. His profile is straightforward enough: he has been competitive, he has hit the frame twice in three hurdle starts, and the unseat in between does not completely wreck the case. A rating of 111 leaves him with a bit to find on Newbrook Diamond, but not an impossible amount, and this sort of test looks suitable. Phillip Enright is a positive booking for a horse likely to be ridden with purpose. At 6/1 with Bet365 and four places on offer, he looks the value each-way play. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Newbrook Diamond is the win play because he brings the best form and the clearest standard to the race. Captain Hanley is the sensible each-way alternative at a workable price, especially with four places available. Seven Towers is the obvious danger if doing what he usually does, while Sea Feliz is the potential fly in the ointment for Willie Mullins if strong in the market.

17:20 – Clearwater Construction Handicap Hurdle (Div I)

Race Details: 2m 1f | | Going: GOOD (Selective watering) | | jumps

This looks a proper summer handicap hurdle: big field, plenty with something to prove and only a handful arriving with really solid recent claims. You Done Well sets the standard on recent form and is the obvious starting point after a pair of placed efforts, while Oh So Charming and Grey Gardens also bring respectable enough profiles into a race that shouldn’t take a great deal of winning. Kentucky Bluebird is interesting for a yard that places them well, and Cinnabar Moth has become fairly well treated if building on recent fifths. Still, there’s not much depth here and a few of these are badly out of form or unreliable. In other words, it’s competitive on paper but not especially strong, so current wellbeing and a clean round may decide it.

Top Selections

1. You Done Well – 11/4 with Bet365

Jockey: Alan O’Sullivan | Trainer: Michael J Browne | Form: 552-43 | Rating: 103 | Topspeed: 85

He’s the percentage call. You Done Well has been knocking on the door in this sort of company, and those last two runs suggest his turn is near rather than behind him. A mark of 103 looks workable, especially in a race where several of his rivals are either badly out of form or still trying to convince in handicaps. He doesn’t arrive with flashy figures, but he does bring reliability, and that counts for plenty in a 17-runner hurdle around here. At 11/4 he’s no giveaway, but he’s the one with the fewest questions to answer and holds strong claims if reproducing his latest placed effort. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Kentucky Bluebird – 11/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Keith Donoghue | Trainer: Gavin Cromwell | Form: 066-04 | Rating: 102 | Topspeed: 58

He’s the each-way play because there was a bit more encouragement in that latest fourth than the bare form might suggest. Kentucky Bluebird had shown very little beforehand, so to step forward on his most recent start hints that he may just be finding his level now. Gavin Cromwell’s runners in these ordinary handicaps always command respect, and Keith Donoghue is a notable booking in a race where experience and judgement matter. Off 102, he doesn’t look thrown in, but neither does he look handicapped out of it in this modest enough contest. With four places on offer, 11/2 makes him a perfectly fair each-way punt.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

You Done Well is the solid win bet because he brings the best recent form into an ordinary race and looks hard to oppose if running to the same level again. Kentucky Bluebird is the each-way alternative at 11/2, with his latest run suggesting he’s coming to the boil. Oh So Charming and Grey Gardens are the obvious dangers if the market principals dominate.

17:50 – Clearwater Construction Handicap Hurdle (Div II)

Race Details: 2m 1f | | Going: GOOD (Selective watering) | | jumps

This looks the more competitive of the two divisions on paper, with plenty arriving from the same sort of handicap band and not much room for error under these weights. Brave Josee sets the standard on recent form after a pair of solid efforts, while Kilt comes here on the back of a win and Bella Union has been knocking hard enough to suggest another big run is coming. Hidalgo Des Mottes is also lurking with consistent recent figures, and Hatfield Hammer is not one to dismiss if building on his latest outing. It is not a deep race in terms of proven quality, but it is a proper handicap puzzle where current momentum and a clean round of jumping should count for plenty.

Top Selections

1. Brave Josee – 11/4 with Bet365

Jockey: Kevin Healy | Trainer: Declan Queally | Form: 07-882 | Rating: 101 | Topspeed: 93

Brave Josee is the obvious starting point and, to be fair, the market has not missed her. She has been shaping like a winner waiting to happen, finishing second on her last two starts, and this 4yo looks to have found her level in handicap company. The attractive part is that she still has a bit of upside whereas some of these are thoroughly exposed. A mark of 101 looks workable, and she gets in here with just 10st 13lb which could be a real asset if this turns into a proper test from the home turn. At 11/4 she is hardly hidden, but she still makes plenty of appeal. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Bella Union – 7/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Darragh O’keeffe | Trainer: John C McConnell | Form: 901-12 | Rating: 99 | Topspeed: 94

Bella Union looks the each-way value in a race where several at shorter prices have to prove they can back up recent efforts. John C McConnell’s 10yo has been in excellent nick, winning two starts ago and then following up with a second, so there is no doubt about current wellbeing. She is effectively racing off a fair mark of 99 and her recent figures suggest she is still running to a level that makes her very competitive in this grade. Darragh O’keeffe is a solid booking, and in a 17-runner race with four places on offer, 7/1 feels a fair each-way punt rather than a hopeful one. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Brave Josee is the win play because she is the progressive one in the field and her recent seconds read well for this level. Bella Union is the each-way alternative at a more workable price given her consistency and strong current form. Kilt and Hidalgo Des Mottes are the obvious dangers, while Hatfield Hammer is one to keep onside if the market speaks in his favour.

18:20 – Curracloe Beach Maiden Hurdle

Race Details: 3m | | Going: GOOD (Selective watering) | | jumps

This looks a fairly clear race at the head of the market, even if there are plenty in here. Doctor Elvis sets the standard comfortably on ratings and recent form after finishing second on his return, while Young Doran made an immediate impact when runner-up on debut over hurdles and is the obvious threat. Between them, they bring the strongest pieces of form by some margin. After that, it gets much murkier. Benner Wenner and Glenary Prince come from a powerful yard and could step forward, while Mayo Shirocco is an interesting, less exposed one returning from a long absence. Over 3m on decent ground, proven stamina and straightforward jumping should matter plenty, and this doesn’t look the deepest maiden for the grade.

Top Selections

1. Doctor Elvis – 6/5 with Bet365

Jockey: Jack Kennedy | Trainer: Gordon Elliott | Form: 4220-2 | Rating: 134 | Topspeed: 121

Doctor Elvis is the one they all have to beat. A mark of 134 leaves him clear on the figures and that latest second suggests he’s ready to get this maiden out of the way sooner rather than later. He has been knocking on the door in stronger races than this and, crucially, arrives with established hurdle form rather than just promise. Jack Kennedy is an eye-catching booking in a race where the market has already latched on, but for good reason. At 6/5 he is no giveaway, yet he still looks the solid option because most of these have a good deal more to prove over this trip and in this company. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Mayo Shirocco – 10/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Ricky Doyle | Trainer: Colin Bowe | Form: 546/ | Rating: 103 | Topspeed:

Mayo Shirocco is the each-way angle in a race where the obvious pair dominate the conversation. He’s absent for a long time, so there is risk attached, but Colin Bowe runners are always worth a second look in this sphere and he at least showed enough in his early outings to think there could be more to come now sent hurdling in a race lacking depth beyond the principals. The 3m trip could easily suit better than some of the shorter-distance form on show elsewhere, and 10/1 makes more appeal than some shorter-priced, less convincing alternatives. He doesn’t need to be a star to hit the frame here. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Doctor Elvis is the percentage call and makes most appeal as the win bet given his clear edge on form and ratings. For an each-way punt, Mayo Shirocco looks the value in a race where several are either exposed or hard to trust. Young Doran is the obvious danger after a promising debut, while Benner Wenner is the one to watch if the De Bromhead yard has him coming on sharply.

18:52 – Slaney Valley Beginners Chase

Race Details: 2m 3f | | Going: GOOD (Selective watering) | | jumps

This is a fairly interesting beginners’ chase rather than a deep one, with several coming here on the back of solid hurdle form but still needing to prove themselves fully over fences. Duke Silver is an obvious focal point for Joseph O’Brien after shaping well when third on his latest start, while Donnie Devito brings reliable placed form and the best published topspeed figure in the line-up. The Mullins pair Eclipse Chaser and Fillyoureye add depth, though both arrive with a bit to answer in terms of consistency. Pinot Gris is another with back-class on his hurdles mark, but his recent form has been underwhelming. In truth, this looks the sort of race where accurate jumping and a handy tactical position around Wexford could count for plenty.

Top Selections

1. Duke Silver – 5/2 with Bet365

Jockey: J J Slevin | Trainer: Joseph Patrick O’Brien | Form: 17603- | Rating: | Topspeed:

Duke Silver makes plenty of appeal in a race where not many arrive looking bombproof. He ended last season with a respectable third, and that effort suggested he was beginning to find his level after some mixed runs. Joseph O’Brien’s horses are rarely lacking in polish for this sort of test and J J Slevin is the kind of rider you want around this track when rhythm over fences matters. At 5/2 he is no giveaway, but he does look the one with the most straightforward profile and the least guesswork attached. If he jumps cleanly, he sets the standard. Bet type tag: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Donnie Devito – 6/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Danny Gilligan | Trainer: Ross O’Sullivan | Form: 34323- | Rating: 131 | Topspeed: 105

Donnie Devito looks the sensible each-way play because he has been knocking on the door without quite getting his head in front. Those figures of 34323- tell their own story: he turns up, runs his race and gives you something to work with. A mark of 131 and a topspeed of 105 put him right in the argument on the bare numbers, and this field does not contain an outstanding opponent. Danny Gilligan should be able to keep him in a good position, and if this turns into a test of honesty rather than brilliance, 6/1 starts to look quite fair. He has solid place claims at the very least. Bet type tag: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Duke Silver is the win bet because he looks the most likely improver and comes here with fewer doubts than most. Donnie Devito is the each-way option in an 11-runner field, as his profile screams consistency and he should be in the first three if running to form. The main dangers are Eclipse Chaser and Pinot Gris, while Cinammon Roll is not dismissed at all.

19:25 – Molloy Metals Recycling Handicap Chase

Race Details: 2m 3f | | Going: GOOD (Selective watering) | | jumps

This is a proper summer handicap chase rather than a weak little Wexford raffle, with a few well-treated types colliding from very different angles. Nouvotic arrives on a hat-trick after back-to-back wins and is the obvious one to beat, but he has to concede weight all round and this sharper test on good ground asks another question. Antrim Coast has been knocking on the door in stronger company and looks a major player off 148, while Ma Jacks Hill is the unexposed six-year-old in the line-up after getting off the mark over fences last time. Lisleigh Lad and Clonshire River have the sort of profiles that make them dangerous in a race where pace and clean jumping should count for plenty. Tricky enough, but not impossible to unpick.

Top Selections

1. Nouvotic – 2/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Darragh O’keeffe | Trainer: Henry De Bromhead | Form: 31611- | Rating: 147 | Topspeed: 131

It’s hard to get away from Nouvotic, who looked a horse going the right way when signing off with consecutive wins. The form string 31611- suggests he has learned how to get the job done, and a mark of 147 may not have caught up with him just yet. De Bromhead runs two here, but this one is plainly the stable spearhead and Darragh O’Keeffe is a solid booking for a race that should demand accuracy. At 2/1 he is hardly hiding, but in a field where plenty have questions to answer, he is the one with the fewest. Bet type: WIN.

Bet: WIN

2. Clonshire River – 11/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Phillip Enright | Trainer: Eddie & Patrick Harty | Form: 10222- | Rating: 145 | Topspeed: 134

For an each-way play, Clonshire River makes plenty of appeal at double-figure odds. He ended last campaign with a sequence of solid efforts, including three seconds in his last four starts, and that sort of consistency is often rewarded in these summer handicaps. A topspeed figure of 134 says he has the pace to cope with good ground, and racing from 141 looks workable if he can reproduce his best. Phillip Enright is more than capable of delivering him late, and in a 12-runner race with four places on offer, 11/1 is the kind of price that makes sense for a proper each-way punt. Bet type: EACH-WAY.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Nouvotic is the win play because he brings the strongest recent profile and still looks progressive over fences. Clonshire River is the each-way alternative at a much bigger price, especially with four places available. The obvious dangers are Antrim Coast, who has classy bits of handicap form, and Ma Jacks Hill, whose latest win hints there could be more to come.

20:00 – Save The Date 7th August Ladies Day Handicap Chase

Race Details: 2m 3f | | Going: GOOD (Selective watering) | | jumps

This is a proper Wexford handicap chase puzzle with 19 runners, plenty of inconsistent types and a few arriving with enough recent encouragement to make the market informative. Giant Haystacks has been knocking on the door and sets a fair standard on recent form, while Driveonwill comes here off a win but has to lump top weight in a race where that is no gift. A Snow White Park and Tingarran Express are solid enough contenders near the head of the betting, and L’Amiral Fromentin looks interesting after a recent second if building on that. Lower down, Fr Gilligansvoyge is very hard to dismiss despite his age after getting his head back in front last time. It is not a deep race for the grade, but it is absolutely the sort where a well-treated one with momentum can slip through.

Top Selections

1. Giant Haystacks – 4/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Danny Gilligan | Trainer: Ross O’Sullivan | Form: 075-43 | Rating: 105 | Topspeed: 93

Giant Haystacks looks the percentage call. His last two runs have hinted that he is ready to strike, finishing fourth and then third, and those efforts read well enough in the context of a race where a lot of these are either out of form or hard to trust. Off 163lb he is not thrown in, but he is at least arriving here in one piece and with a bit of consistency behind him. Ross O’Sullivan also saddles Driveonwill, but this one appeals more because he looks less exposed to the handicapper than some of the older brigade. At 4/1 he is hardly hidden, but he still makes plenty of appeal as the most solid option in a messy contest. Bet: WIN

2. Fr Gilligansvoyge – 14/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Josh Williamson | Trainer: John G Carr | Form: P4-421 | Rating: 104 | Topspeed: 96

If you want an each-way punt at a fairer price, Fr Gilligansvoyge makes a lot of sense. Yes, he is a 13-year-old, but this veteran has rediscovered his enthusiasm lately, following a second with a win, and those recent efforts are stronger than plenty in this line-up can offer. He is nicely in at the weights off 143lb and his Topspeed figure of 96 says he still retains enough ability to be competitive in this grade. In a race with five places on offer, 14/1 with Bet365 looks more than fair for a horse who is plainly in better heart than many of his rivals. He does not need to improve to get involved again. Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Giant Haystacks is the win play because he brings the most convincing recent profile and looks set for another big run. Fr Gilligansvoyge is the each-way alternative at a much bigger price, especially with five places available. The obvious dangers are Driveonwill, despite top weight, and L’Amiral Fromentin, who arrives on the back of a solid second.

20:30 – Racing Again 22nd July INH Flat Race

Race Details: 2m | | Going: GOOD (Selective watering) | | jumps

This looks a typically interesting Wexford bumper to close the card, with a short-priced Mullins runner setting the standard but no shortage of plausible dangers lurking behind him. Cotswold Blue brings the cleanest single piece of form after finishing second on debut and, with Paul Townend absent, it is notable enough that Patrick Mullins takes over. Still, this is not a penalty kick in a 17-runner field. Highlander Addict and Martymill have both shown enough to think there is more to come, while Orderly Conduct, Perfect Order and Ballybollen add depth among the unexposed types from major yards. Good ground should suit the sharper bumper horses, and this feels less a procession than a race where experience and tactical positioning will matter plenty.

Top Selections

1. Cotswold Blue – 9/5 with Betfair

Jockey: Mr P W Mullins | Trainer: W P Mullins | Form: 2 | Rating: 111 | Topspeed: 31

He is the obvious one, but sometimes the obvious one is still the right one. Cotswold Blue made a solid start when runner-up on debut and that bare form, allied to a 111 rating, is already good enough to put him right at the head of this. Willie Mullins does not waste too many bullets in these races, and Patrick Mullins aboard only underlines the intent. In a field packed with unknowns, proven bumper ability carries real weight. At 9/5 he is hardly hiding, but he still looks the most likely winner if building at all on that first outing. Bet: WIN

2. Highlander Addict – 11/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Mr D Doyle | Trainer: Patrick J Flynn | Form: 727-3 | Rating: 108 | Topspeed: 59

Highlander Addict makes more each-way appeal than several shorter in the market because he has a proper bit of racecraft now and shaped nicely when third on his return. That effort suggested he is coming to the boil, and his earlier bumper efforts were not without promise either. A rating of 108 leaves him with something to find on the figures with the favourite, but not an impossible amount, especially if this turns into a test of streetwise bumper know-how rather than raw potential. At 11/2 with three places on offer, he looks a sensible each-way punt in a race where plenty are guessing. Bet: EACH-WAY

Danger: Martymill is respected after his recent second and could easily get involved if progressing again.

Betting Strategy

Cotswold Blue is the win play because he brings the strongest established form and comes from the yard you simply do not ignore in bumpers. For an each-way angle, Highlander Addict looks the value at 11/2 given his experience and latest comeback run. Martymill is the obvious danger, while Orderly Conduct is one to note if the market speaks strongly.
