5.12 Windsor – Silver Gunn (1.5pt win – 11/2 bet365, 9/2 generally)
Silver Gunn, twice a 1m2f Windsor winner for jockey Neil Callan, looks interesting under Callan’s son Henry in this amateur riders’ handicap. The Marco Botti-trained veteran would have needed the outing when tenth of 13 on last month’s reappearance at Yarmouth and drops down from Class 4 to Class 5 level this evening for the first time since his Newmarket victory in August 2024. His full record in handicaps or classified stakes in this grade reads 1511 (3-4), with the defeat excusable as he failed to settle over 1m4f in a small field at Doncaster. The jockey booking is most encouraging, as Henry Callan’s record in amateur riders’, since August 1st of last year, stands at 14 winners from 28 mounts for a profit of £35.54 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 5.76, A/E = 2.43).
6.17 Windsor – Zoulu Chief (1pt win – 5/1 bet365, 9/2 generally)
Zoulu Chief was disappointing when a bet for this column at Leicester last time, finishing tenth of 13 in a 6f Class 2 handicap behind Strike Red. However, the 5-1 shot was taken on for the lead that day and is worth another chance now dropping down to Class 3 level and returning to the scene of one of his previous victories. Tonight’s pace setup looks more favourable – the pace map suggests that he could be in receipt of an easy lead – and trainer Heather Main is among the winners.
