17:45 – Royal Windsor Supports Racing Staff Week Apprentice Handicap (Apprentice Training Race Series)

Race Details: 6f | Class 6 | Going: 6.9) (watering) (Good to firm, good in places (goingstick) | | flat

This is a fairly ordinary Class 6 sprint, but it is not short on angles. Cape Toronada arrives off the back of a breakthrough success and is the obvious one to beat now switched into this apprentice company, while Alashos also comes here in form and has the look of a solid yardstick at the grade. The three-year-olds may well hold the key, with Mademoiselle Belle, Blindfold Games and Gal all capable of nicking minor money if things fall right. Older hands such as Giant and Lahina Bay have bits of form that give them a squeak, but both have become hard to trust. In truth, this is not a deep race and a clean break plus a decent early position over Windsor’s sharp 6f could prove decisive.

Top Selections

1. Cape Toronada – 7/4 with William Hill

Jockey: Matthew Lloyd Slater | Trainer: Tony Carroll | Form: 0-6421 | Rating: 65 | Topspeed: 56

Cape Toronada is hard to oppose after finally getting his head in front last time, and that recent sequence of 6421 suggests he has been building towards a win rather than landing a fluke. He is a three-year-old open to a bit more progress in a race where plenty of these look fully exposed, and an opening mark of 65 still gives him room if that latest effort is backed up. Tony Carroll’s runners are never ignored in this sort of low-grade sprint, and the market has him exactly where you would expect. At 7/4 he is no giveaway, but he still looks the percentage call. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Mademoiselle Belle – 10/1 with William Hill

Jockey: Charlie Tucker | Trainer: Max Comley | Form: 359263 | Rating: 65 | Topspeed: 63

Mademoiselle Belle makes plenty of each-way appeal in a race where not many arrive with reliable recent placed form. Her latest third reads well enough for this level, and the standout figure in this field is that topspeed mark of 63, which says she has the raw pace to be competitive if getting the splits at the right time. She is another three-year-old who does not look finished with yet, and from a handy middle draw she should be able to sit in the right part of the race. Available at 10/1, she looks a better value play than several shorter-priced exposed rivals. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Cape Toronada is the win play and makes the most sense on current trajectory, recent form and likely upside. For an each-way punt, Mademoiselle Belle looks the value at double-figure odds given her recent consistency and useful topspeed figure. Alashos is the obvious danger after his recent win and solid fourth, while Gal is another not to dismiss completely from stall 1.

18:15 – British Stallion Studs EBF Newcomers’ “Confined” Maiden Stakes (Unraced) (GBB Race)

Race Details: 6f | Class 4 | Going: 6.9) (watering) (Good to firm, good in places (goingstick) | | flat

This is a proper guessing game on paper, with all 15 runners unraced and the market doing plenty of the heavy lifting. Even so, there are a few yards you’d naturally want on side in a Windsor 2yo maiden, and the strongest early signals surround Perfect Nation, Flann Sunna and Minzaal Time. George Boughey and the Crisfords know the type required for these sharp summer maidens, while Richard Hughes is more than capable of readying one first time up. Windsor’s 6f on quick ground tends to reward professionalism as much as raw speed, so temperament and gate speed will matter. It looks a race with depth rather than an obvious standout, which makes it interesting from a betting angle, but it is still a tricky puzzle rather than one to get carried away with.

Top Selections

1. Perfect Nation – 4/1 with William Hill

Jockey: Billy Loughnane | Trainer: George Boughey | Form: | Rating: | Topspeed:

The market usually tells a fair story with Boughey’s juveniles, and Perfect Nation has been prominent from the outset in a race where plenty can be ruled in only on stable reputation. A low draw in 3 looks no bad thing around here if he breaks on terms, and Billy Loughnane is an eye-catching booking for a yard that does very well with sharp 2yos. At around 4/1 he is hardly missed, but he still makes most appeal as the one most likely to come out, travel like he knows the job and see it through. In a maiden full of guesswork, he is the percentage call.

Bet: WIN

2. Minzaal Time – 15/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Rossa Ryan | Trainer: Richard Hughes | Form: | Rating: | Topspeed:

Minzaal Time looks the each-way value against the shorter-priced pair. Hughes can have one ready for a debut sprint, and the combination of Rossa Ryan and a handy middle draw gives him every chance of getting a smooth introduction. This isn’t a contest packed with exposed standards, so taking 15/2 about one from a respected yard makes plenty of sense, especially with three places on offer in a 15-runner field. He doesn’t need to be a superstar to outrun that price; he just needs to be streetwise and quick enough for Windsor first time out, which is entirely plausible.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Perfect Nation is the solid win play in a race where stable confidence and likely professionalism count for plenty. For an each-way punt, Minzaal Time makes more appeal than some of the similarly priced alternatives. Flann Sunna is the obvious danger if the market confidence proves justified, while Public Affection is another who wouldn’t surprise if attracting support.

18:45 – Track Radio On Digital & DAB Restricted Novice Stakes (Bands B-D) (GBB Race)

Race Details: 1m | Class 5 | Going: 6.9) (watering) (Good to firm, good in places (goingstick) | | flat

This looks a fairly ordinary restricted novice rather than a deep one, and the market has understandably latched on to the obvious form horses. House Of Medici sets the standard on debut form after finishing third and carries the highest rating in the field, while Brocklesby Bill arrives off the back of a win and is the one with proven know-how. Fiefdom has shown enough in two starts to be a serious player if improving for the step up to a mile, and Star Banner is another with bits of form that give him a squeak. The rest need to find plenty on what they have shown, or are complete unknowns. In a race lacking depth, tactical speed and natural progression are likely to count for plenty.

Top Selections

1. House Of Medici – 7/4 with Bet365

Jockey: Oisin Murphy | Trainer: Andrew Balding | Form: 3 | Rating: 89 | Topspeed:

House Of Medici is the percentage call. A debut third in this company does not scream certainty, but it is easily the best piece of unexposed form on offer here and his 89 rating gives him the edge. Andrew Balding’s three-year-olds generally know their job quickly enough, and the booking of Oisin Murphy only reinforces the idea that this one is expected to go forward from that opening effort. The move to a mile looks likely to suit and, in a race where several rivals are either limited or still learning, he is hard to oppose despite a fairly tight 7/4. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Fiefdom – 7/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Tom Marquand | Trainer: S Woods | Form: 65 | Rating: 86 | Topspeed: 20

Fiefdom makes more each-way appeal than some of the shorter-priced alternatives because there is still a bit of room for him to step forward. He has not been beaten out of sight in two runs, and that 86 rating says he has shown enough ability to be firmly competitive at this level. The step up to a mile could easily bring improvement, and Tom Marquand is exactly the sort you want on a lightly raced type who may need delivering at the right time round Windsor. At 7/2, he looks the value each-way play against the favourite if finding the expected progress. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

House Of Medici is the win bet on the strength of the best existing form and obvious scope to improve from debut. Fiefdom is the each-way punt in a nine-runner field, with the mile likely to suit and three places on offer. Brocklesby Bill is the danger after getting off the mark last time, while Star Banner is not dismissed if bouncing back.

19:17 – Fitzdares Sprint Series Handicap (Windsor Sprint Series Qualifier)

Race Details: 5f | Class 3 | Going: 6.9) (watering) (Good to firm, good in places (goingstick) | | flat

This is a proper Windsor sprint handicap: compact field, plenty of exposed pace, and not much margin for error over the minimum trip. Mesaafi arrives off a win and is easy to see why he heads the market, while Dream Composer and Rhythm N Hooves bring solid enough recent handicap form to the table. Nogo’s Dream has been knocking on the door without getting his head in front, and Glamorous Breeze remains dangerous in this grade despite her advancing years. It doesn’t look an especially deep Class 3, but it is a tricky little puzzle because several of these are running off workable marks and a sharp 5f at Windsor tends to reward whichever one gets the run of the race.

Top Selections

1. Mesaafi – 10/3 with Bet365

Jockey: Jack Mitchell | Trainer: Ross Burdon | Form: 4-0841 | Rating: 96 | Topspeed: 86

Mesaafi makes most appeal after finally putting things together again last time, and that Topspeed figure of 86 is the best on offer in this field. He’s not exactly unexposed as a 5yo, but that latest win suggested he still has races in him from this sort of mark, and the low draw in stall 2 could be a real asset if Jack Mitchell can grab a handy position early. This is tougher, no question, but he’s carrying only 133 and looks the one arriving with momentum rather than living on old form. At 10/3, he’s hardly missed in the market, but he still holds the strongest claims.

Bet: WIN

2. Nogo’s Dream

Jockey: Oisin Murphy | Trainer: Richard Hughes | Form: -26252 | Rating: 94 | Topspeed: 78

Nogo’s Dream is the each-way play because he keeps running well without quite getting the breaks to win one. Those recent figures tell a clear story: he’s been competitive time and again, and from a mark of 94 he’s not handicapped out of it in a race lacking a standout. Stall 3 gives Oisin Murphy options, and Hughes-trained sprinters at Windsor are rarely here for the scenery. He does need to prove he can finish the job after a string of near misses, but in a nine-runner race with three places on offer he makes plenty of sense as the solid each-way punt against shorter-priced rivals with more to prove.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Mesaafi is the win play after posting the best recent speed figure and arriving here in winning form from a handy draw. For those looking for a bit more security, Nogo’s Dream appeals as the each-way option given his consistency and workable mark. Dream Composer and Glamorous Breeze are obvious dangers, while Rhythm N Hooves is another who could get involved if the race falls right.

19:50 – Carrington Wealth Management Handicap

Race Details: 1m 3f | Class 5 | Going: 6.9) (watering) (Good to firm, good in places (goingstick) | | flat

This looks a tight little three-year-old handicap rather than a race packed with depth, and in a six-runner field tactics could matter plenty. Astrological arrives with the profile of a progressive sort after just three starts, while Rumbustious has the benefit of hard race fitness and comes here off a solid second with the best Topspeed figure in the line-up. Edwin Hubble has the highest mark and could easily step forward from his seasonal return, but he does have to give weight away all round. Tabasko and Impossible Mission are not without hope if this turns tactical, though both need a bit more than they have shown lately. It is a tricky enough puzzle for such a small field, but not an especially strong Class 5.

Top Selections

1. Astrological – 3/1 with William Hill

Jockey: Marco Ghiani | Trainer: Marco Botti | Form: 213 | Rating: 83 | Topspeed:

Astrological is the one with the most obvious upside. He has raced only three times, won on his second start and backed that up with a respectable third last time, so an opening mark of 83 does not look harsh in a race where plenty of these have already shown their hand. Botti’s runners in this sort of middle-distance handicap often improve for experience, and the step into 1m3f could bring out a bit more again. In a small field, Ghiani should be able to keep things simple from a wide draw. At 3/1, he looks the percentage call rather than a flashy one. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Rumbustious – 7/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Billy Loughnane | Trainer: Charlie Johnston | Form: 8-3442 | Rating: 83 | Topspeed: 69

Rumbustious appeals as the each-way angle, even with only two places on offer, because he is the one arriving in the steadiest nick. His recent 3442 sequence tells the story of a colt holding his form well, and that latest runner-up effort suggests he is knocking firmly on the door. The 69 Topspeed figure is the best in the race, he gets in here with just 126lb, and Johnston’s runners are rarely found wanting for honesty in these staying handicaps. You can make the case that he is a shade exposed compared to Astrological, but at 7/2 he still looks solid enough for an each-way punt in a race lacking much hidden depth. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Astrological is the win play on potential, with his lightly raced profile giving him more scope than most of these. Rumbustious is the safer each-way option thanks to his current consistency, proven speed figures and handy weight. Edwin Hubble is the obvious danger if improving for his comeback, but he is short enough considering he has top weight to shoulder.

20:20 – Fitzdares Taking Bets Since 1882 Handicap

Race Details: 5f | Class 6 | Going: 6.9) (watering) (Good to firm, good in places (goingstick) | | flat

This is a proper Windsor sprint handicap in the sense that plenty arrive with bits and pieces of form, but none are bombproof. Chasing Gold comes here on the back of a win and is entitled to plenty of respect despite a 4lb rise, while Honour Your Dreams has been knocking hard on the door and looks certain to be popular after another solid placed effort. Dreambird Dolly is another last-time-out winner in the mix, but she now has to prove that performance wasn’t merely well timed in a weak finish. Cabeza De Llave has been running well enough in this grade and looks the type to get involved again, while Rajeteriat is interesting if building on his recent return. Tricky rather than strong, then, and getting the pace map right could be everything over this sharp 5f.

Top Selections

1. Honour Your Dreams – 11/2 with William Hill

Jockey: Tom Marquand | Trainer: Michael Attwater | Form: 382442 | Rating: 71 | Topspeed: 51

He’s not hiding much from the handicapper, but in a race full of ifs and buts I’d rather side with the runner bringing the most reliable recent sprint form. Honour Your Dreams has been keeping better company than some of these and his sequence of placed efforts suggests another good run is imminent. Stall 13 is not ideal at Windsor, but Tom Marquand is the sort you want aboard in a race where getting organised early matters. Off the same mark of 71, he doesn’t need to improve dramatically to win this, just hold his form, and 11/2 looks fair in a field where several of the alternatives come with more obvious caveats. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Cabeza De Llave – 13/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Oisin Murphy | Trainer: Michael Attwater | Form: 2-3625 | Rating: 69 | Topspeed: 54

Cabeza De Llave makes plenty of each-way appeal because he tends to run his race in this grade and is now just 2lb lower than Honour Your Dreams. His recent figures don’t scream imminent winner, but there’s enough consistency there to think he can hit the frame again, especially with Oisin Murphy taking over. The fifth last time is easy enough to forgive in a race where things may not have fallen right, and his earlier placed efforts stack up well in a Class 6 of this nature. At 13/2 he looks one of the more sensible each-way punts, particularly with four places on offer in a 13-runner sprint. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Honour Your Dreams is the solid win play in a race lacking certainty but not short on exposed form, while Cabeza De Llave looks the percentage each-way option with Murphy booked and four places available. Chasing Gold is the obvious danger after scoring last time, and Dreambird Dolly has to be respected if backing up that latest success.

20:50 – Vnetrix Cyber Security Solutions Handicap

Race Details: 1m | Class 6 | Going: 6.9) (watering) (Good to firm, good in places (goingstick) | | flat

This looks a fairly ordinary 3yo mile handicap on paper, but there is one horse who has the profile to rise above the grade. Mertoun drops into Class 6 company after shaping with promise when second last time and, on ratings, he has a bit in hand if building on that. Takeitorleaveit is the obvious solid alternative after a productive campaign and should give another honest account, while Blue Celestial keeps knocking on the door without quite getting the job done. Amazing Anita is another with place claims in an open supporting cast. It is not a deep race, but the draw and pace could still make it slightly more tactical than the market suggests around Windsor’s turning mile.

Top Selections

1. Mertoun – 6/4 with Bet365

Jockey: Rossa Ryan | Trainer: Jane Chapple-Hyam | Form: 68-92 | Rating: 73 | Topspeed: 65

He is hard to oppose in this grade. Mertoun has only had four starts, so there is still some upside here, and his latest second suggested the penny is beginning to drop. A mark of 73 does not look harsh in a race like this, especially with that 65 Topspeed figure standing out against largely exposed or limited rivals. Rossa Ryan is an eye-catching booking for a yard that can place one well when they find the right opening. At 6/4 he is no giveaway, but this is exactly the sort of Class 6 handicap a progressive sort should be winning. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Blue Celestial – 13/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Lewis Edmunds | Trainer: James Tate | Form: 347324 | Rating: 69 | Topspeed: 30

Blue Celestial is not getting much respite from the assessor, but he has at least been running to a consistent level and that counts for plenty in a race full of holes. His recent sequence shows a horse holding his form well, and while he does not look especially ahead of his mark, he should be in the right spot if this turns into a straightforward test. James Tate’s runner has the habit of finding one or two too good, which is why the each-way route appeals more than a win-only leap of faith. Around 13/2, he looks the sensible value play for the places and perhaps a bit more if the favourite underperforms. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Mertoun is the win bet and the one with the clearest scope to outclass this field if reproducing his latest run. For an each-way punt, Blue Celestial makes more appeal than most because he is solid, reliable and should be thereabouts again. The main danger is Takeitorleaveit, who arrives in good nick and looks the likeliest to capitalise if the favourite disappoints.
