At the time of writing Star Marian was trading as the 6-4 favourite for this 6f fillies’ handicap on the back of her 5f course win in a fillies’ maiden but she’s been withdrawn with a bruised foot since then and she is behind three of today’s five rivals according to Proform’s speed figures. Of greater interest is Tabby, who makes her debut for James Tate after leaving Denis Quinn’s care. The four-year-old has a 478-day absence to overcome but her two runs over 6f on Tapeta produced a 50-1 neck second at Southwell and a close-up third at this evening’s venue. Her new handler does well at the first time of asking with horses he takes over from other trainers, especially the fillies and mares. He’s won with seven of the 25 qualifiers (28% strike-rate (for a profit of £48.50 to a £1 level stake at SP). Six of those seven wins came on the all-weather and she looks a likely improver for the stable switch.
