Andrew Mount heads to Yarmouth and Sandown for his best bets on Wednesday 16th September. He heads to Yarmouth for the 1.56pm race for an eye-catching each-way pick, whilst it’s the 4.05pm race at Sandown that has caught his attention.
Yarmouth Racing Tips (Wednesday 16 September 2026)
Seven races take place at Yarmouth today, with Andrew opting for a selection in the opening race at 1.56pm.
1.56 Yarmouth – Dark Side Thunder (0.5pt e/w – 4/1 bet365)
The key to the Sea Deer Handicap is whether short-riced favourite Massimo Blue, two from two on Southwell’s Tapeta since joining Dylan Cunha from George Baker and having all the headgear stripped off, can maintain that improvement now switched to turf. It’s certainly possible but I’m not prepared to pay 2-1 to find out and would rather side with Jessica Macey’s Dark Side Thunder each-way. The veteran son of Night Of Thunder returned to form with a runner-up effort over course and distance last time to take his Yarmouth form figures to 5323313522 (1-10) and he’s 6lb lower than when scoring here on similar ground last spring. With another crosswind today (from the stands’ side) his stall 2 draw could prove useful.
Sandown Racing Tips (Wednesday 16 September 2026)
It’s a 1.45pm start at Sandown, with listed action taking place. Andrew has a 1pt win selection in the 4.05pm ccontest.
4.05 Sandown – Lightning Glory (1pt win – 11/2 bet365, 5/1 general)
Since this 1m Class 4 fillies’ handicap was opened up to older horses in 2020, five of the six renewals have gone to three-year-olds and last time out winners who were stepping up form Class 5 level have won the last three. It’s also been a good race for front-runners/prominent racers, with hold-up horses failing to register a win from 20 runners. That’s bad news for the William Hagags-trained Luminare who is usually ridden patiently. Of greater interest is Lightning Glory for the in-form yard of Simon and Ed Crisford. She was always to the fore when landing a Class 5 fillies’ handicap at Newmarket last time having caught the eye against the bias when third at Newbury on her penultimate start – the first two came from well off the pace that day and she emerged best of the prominent racers.
