York & Perth Racing Tips - Andrew Mount's Selections for Wednesday 13 May

Six meetings take place across the UK and Ireland today with the focus very much on day 1 of the Dante Festival at York. ITV Racing are showing the 2:20 to 4:40 races from York on the main ITV channel with a bonus race from Yarmouth at 2:40.

Our resident tipster Andrew Mount has two selections in the York 2:55 (both of which have been well-backed) and another shortener in the finale at Perth. His other selection today – Hello Cotai – has been declared a non-runner in the Yarmouth 2:08.

Read Andrew’s reasoning below and note the price changes on his selections from the original publication time.

York Racing Tips (Wednesday 13 May 2026)

There are seven competitive races on the Knavesmire today and Andrew Mount has two selections for the Churchill Tyres Handicap which have both been backed since the tip was published.

2.55 York – Rousing Encore (tipped at 1pt e/w – 16/1 six places, best price now 11/1 six places with bet365) & Dark Thirty (tipped at 0.5pt e/w – 12/1 six places, best price now 9/1 six places with bet365)

Rousing Encore ran an eye-catching race coming from off the pace to finish fifth of 13 at 18/1 behind Double Rush at Newmarket’s Craven meeting and was unsuited by making the running when beating just one horse home in a small field race at Doncaster on May 2nd when tipped in this column. Ruth Carr’s in-form six-year-old will likely revert to patient tactics today when he lines up for the race he won last year.

Dark Thirty did really well to score for Richard Hannon’s yard at Doncaster’s Lincoln meeting last season, making the running into a headwind in a 19-runner 6 furlong handicap. He then added a win at Salisbury in June before losing his way but shaped with much more promise on debut for the John and Sean Quinn yard at Doncaster in late March, finishing mid-division after making the running in another headwind-affected race. He did as well as could be expected when raised to Class 2 level at Newmarket the next time, finishing a 22-1 seventh of 13 behind handicap blot Double Rush who has gone on to be a winner again since. He finished second to Rousing Encore in this contest 12 months ago and this looks to have been very much the target all along.

Both selections have come in for support over night with Rousing Encore now a best priced 11/1 shot (from 16/1) with bet365 who are offering six places whilst Dark Thirty is into 9/1 from 12/1 with the same firm.

Perth Racing Tips (Wednesday 13 May 2026)

Away from York, Andrew has a selection in the final race at Perth today which has been backed into 5/1 from 10/1 since the tip was published. His other selection at Yarmouth is now a non-runner.

5.25 Perth – Betteryouthanme (tipped 0.5pt e/w – 10/1, best price now 5/1 generally)

Betteryouthanme looked like a future handicap project when he returned 300-1 seventh in a 15-runner maiden hurdle at Wetherby in late March and he confirmed that iimpression when finishing fifth of 11 at 80/1 in a 2 mile novices’ hurdle at Hexham in April. The Mike Smith trained 6-year-old travelled strongly in the rear under jockey Toby Wynne and briefly looked like he might finish in the places before fading late on. He starts handicaps off a mark of just 87 and, whilst he does need to improve on what he’s shown up to now, he arrives with the third-best last time out speed figure of all the runners according to Proform’s ratings and I’m expecting him to put up a competitive performance.

The market has supported Andrew’s view that Betteryouthanme could significantly improve for the move into handicaps with the gelding halving in price (10/1 into 5/1) since the horse was tipped yesterday.

Each-way value and the extended place terms

Both York selections are advised each-way for a reason, and the place terms on offer are key to extracting the most value from the tips. Bet365 and Sky Bet are paying six places at 1/5 odds on the 2:55 with the majority of others including Paddy Power, Betfred and William Hill going five at 1/5 odds. If you can find the best price at bet365 or Sky Bet, it certainly pays to place your bet with one of those firms.
