2.45 Newcastle – TRESHNISH (1pt E/W – 10/1 Bet365, 8/1 generally)

Sue Smith’s TRESHNISH disappointed at Southwell last week but that flat course is no help to him, and he looks very backable now that he returns to a stiff left-handed track. His combined record at Hexham and Newcastle reads 31161F1P121 (6-11) for a profit of £26.75 to a £1 level stake at SP and those figures improve to 111F1121 (6-8) over trips of about 2m only, with the runner-up effort by a nose at odds of 11-1.

6.30 Chelmsford – GORAK (1pt win – 10/3 Bet365, 3/1 generally)

GORAK clocked a fast time in first-time cheekpieces when runner-up in a 7f Southwell handicap last time and that form is starting to work out well. The sixth and ninth have both won since and the winner and third placed on their next starts. That was only his second start for Charlie Fellowes, and he remains open to improvement at the trip. Well drawn in stall 2, it will be disappointing if he doesn’t go close at least.
