GG tipster Andrew Mount reveals his list of eyecatchers from the past week’s action
Find out which runners he wants to keep onside below, alongside bet365‘s new customer offer of £50 in Free Bets when you deposit and bet £10.
FLIC OU VOYOU (won, 2m3.5f handicap chase, Chepstow, Saturday, Ocrtober 8th)
FLIC OU VOYOU tends to come good in the early months of the peak jumps season and last Saturday’s comfortable victory in the John Ayres Memorial Handicap Chase took his record in October/November to 12311135311 (6-11), improving to 131151 (4-6) on genuinely good or faster going only. He should find another race before the ground turns.
MATCHLESS (fifth, 1m2f handicap, Leicester, Tuesday, October 4th)
There was a strong early pace in the 1m2f Kube – Leicester’s Premier Event Hire Venue Handicap last week, with MATCHLESS pestered for the lead by JEAN BAPTISTE and then KENZAI WARRIOR. Ivan Furtado’s four-year-old saw off that pair but had nothing in reserve to repel the closers and came in a seven-length fifth. It was a fair effort in the circumstances and he’s likely to win again when facing less pace pressure.

Mon 10 Oct 2022MONAADHIL (won, 7f handicap, Chelmsford, Saturday, October 8th)
MONAADHIL, an eyecatching third from off the pace over course and distance last time, made no mistake in the chelmsfordcityracecourse.com Handicap, scoring by two-and-a-quarter lengths from Ower Starlight. Seven furlongs on a turning track clearly suits and he could be out again at Kempton on Wednesday (October 12th).
PERFECT SWISS (fourth, 1m handicap, Pontefract, Monday, October 3rd)
I thought that the good to soft ground would see the runners come stands’ side in the 1m Go Racing In Yorkshire Handicap, favouring high draws. However, they remained far side and low draws had an edge, with the first four drawn 1, 2, 6 and 15 of 17). PERFECT SWISS, advised each-way in my daily ‘best bets’ column, was the outlier in fourth. Tim Easterby’s 40-1 shot was beaten by more than six lengths but this was still a fine effort given his track position.
PROSPECT (fifth, 5f handicap, Musselburgh, Monday, October 10th)
After two good efforts from poor draws at Ayr and Redcar, PROSPECT was out of luck again, this time meeting trouble against the nearside rail on his way to a close-up fifth of 12. Backed from 9-1 into 7-2, it’s only a matter of time before he gains compensation.
ROXBORO ROAD (pulled up, 2m4f handicap hurdle, Sedgefield, Wednesday, October 12th)
ROXBORO ROAD wouldn’t be an obvious one for the tracker having pulled up when 50-1 in the 2m4f Paxtons – The Caseih No.1 UK&Roi Dealer Handicap Hurdle at Sedgefield last Wednesday but it took him a few runs before hitting form last term and he’s no doubt best in the spring. His record from March to May reads 718116P61112 (6-12) for a profit of £16.38, compared to 0-15 in other months.
SPANISH STAR (won, 6f handicap, Goodwood, Sunday, October 9th)
SPANISH STAR has a strong seasonal pattern to his form, peaking in the autumn. He repeated last year’s win in the 6f William Hill Handicap and also won in the corresponding week at Leicester in 2020. His record in turf handicaps from late September until the end of October now reads 9718210631041 (4-13). However, his last three wins have been followed by unplaced effort so be wary of taking a short price next time.
VIA SISTINI (second, Group 3 fillies & mares stakes, Newmarket, Friday, October 7th)
George Boughey hasn’t got the greatest record at the first time of asking with horses he takes over from other trainers, scoring with six of the 67 runners (9%) for a loss of £47.50 to a £1 level stake at SP. That didn’t stop the punters coming for VIA SISTINA, ex-Joseph Tuite, who was backed from 14-1 into 11-2 for the 1m2f Newmarket Pony Academy Pride Stakes last Friday, a Group 3 contest for fillies and mares. She ran an absolute blinder under a patient ride, just failing to claw back all-the-way winner CREATIVE FLAIR. Softer ground will suit, and she’ll surely go one better in the near future.
VULCAN (sixth, 1m2f handicap, York, Saturday, October 8th)
VULCAN’s patient running style was at a disadvantage in the 1m2f Coral Get You Closer To The Action Finale Handicap and his three-length sixth can be upgraded. He also caught the eye under a prominent ride when fifth at Doncaster the time before and, if connections get the tactics right, he’ll surely find another race.
YOUARENOTFORGIVEN (won, 7f handicap, Leicester, Tuesday, October 4th)
Tony Carroll’s YOURARENOTFORGIVEN was the only straight-track winner on the day to come from off the pace, landing division two of the 7f Next Meeting @LeicesterRaces Tuesday 11th Handicap by two and a half lengths from pacesetting-pair Yoshimi and Sir Winston. This was his first run at the 7f trip after being campaigned at up to 1m2f and he could be well ahead of the handicapper.
